A Pristine Timber Frame
Pristine believes in the responsible and economic use of our earth's timber supply. British Columbia is renowned for its high quality stand of fir, cedar and spruce timber. Our appreciation of this rare and beautiful commodity has led us along the path to becoming a part of the timber framing industry. Since timber frames are with us for generations, this time honored method of construction requires the use of less trees over the long term.
Douglas fir is our preferred species for timber frames. Additional species can be provided and greatly affect the design of your frame as well as, the size of the timbers used and the overall cost of the frame. Our craftspeople are knowledgeable in the dynamics of timber frame structures; their stresses, loads, shear, compression and tension and where timbers of certain size and species are required. With the use of Douglas fir, a hardwood, we can design and build frames which are finer and lighter in nature or heavier, more masculine timber frames.
It is important to realize that the design of your home and the design of your frame must be done in concert with each other. The floor plan plays an integral part in the design of the timber bent system in your home.
Our design department along with our timber framers will work with your architect and contractor to create your foundation, timber frame and floor plan drawings. Also, we are available for consultation with your general contractor and all subtrades during the entire phase of your project regarding such issues as plumbing and carpentry work. If it is possible, you are best to seek out the services of someone who has had experience in working with timber frame structures previously.
Once the design process is complete the craftspeople at Pristine will cut your frame at our facility. Each timber will be meticulously cut and each joint pre-fit before the structure is shipped to your site. The timbers in most timber frame homes are planed smooth and a basic oil finish is applied to them.
